Missing From Ethiopia was founded to break the silence surrounding Ethiopia’s missing people. We restore names, preserve stories, and build a permanent public record, ensuring no one is forgotten and every family is heard.
Thousands of Ethiopian families live with the uncertainty of not knowing what happened to their loved ones. For many, answers remain out of reach, and stories risk being lost over time.
Missing From Ethiopia was created to break that silence, to provide a centralised, trustworthy space where families can report missing persons, search for information, and connect with others who share their experience.
Our purpose is not to replace any existing mechanisms, but to complement them by creating visibility, preserving memory, and establishing a permanent, accessible public record of Ethiopia's missing. Because every name matters. And no one should be forgotten.
Connecting Families
Across Borders
These principles guide every decision we make and every action we take.
Every life matters. We honour each name and story with respect, care, and humanity.
We are committed to responsible documentation, accuracy, and ethical stewardship of every record entrusted to us.
We are guided solely by compassion and the shared belief that every family deserves visibility, remembrance, and support.
Information should be open and reachable to all families, regardless of location, language, or circumstance.
From a small initiative to a growing global network.
Volunteers began documenting missing persons and supporting their families, before any platform existed.
We designed and built a secure, multilingual registry, working with families and community volunteers.
Voices of the Missing was established in Australia as the umbrella organisation for the Missing From registries.
missingfromethiopia.org opened to the public two years ahead of plan, for reports and search in Amharic, Afaan Oromo, Tigrinya, Arabic and English.
Missing From Ethiopia is an independent, not-for-profit initiative established to create a permanent and accessible public record of Ethiopia's missing. Guided by principles of dignity, integrity, and compassion, the initiative is committed to responsible documentation and family-centred support.
While currently founder-led, the platform is designed to grow into a structured and collaborative network of researchers, volunteers, and advocates dedicated to preserving memory and strengthening support for families.
Missing From Ethiopia was created out of a deep sense of responsibility to ensure that families seeking answers are not left without visibility or recognition. The initiative is grounded in humanitarian values and guided by care, respect, and a commitment to treating every record with dignity.
As the initiative develops, we welcome collaboration from individuals who share a commitment to documentation, remembrance, and community support.
Missing From Ethiopia is part of Voices of the Missing, a registered Australian not-for-profit company (Voices of the Missing Ltd) running free, public missing-persons registries for communities affected by conflict and displacement. It is also a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).
Every registry in the network follows one documentation methodology and one set of ethical guidelines, with the same family-centred standard of care.
As the initiative grows, additional regional platforms may be established following the same standards and humanitarian commitments.
Whether you want to report a missing person, volunteer your time, or support our work, there's a place for you.
