Her family last saw her when she was a 10-month-old infant; there is no information describing what she looks like now.
Rediet Wendeson Melkamu was born on Meskerem 30, 1999 in the Ethiopian calendar (10 October 2006) in Addis Ababa. In 2007, as a baby, she was placed in the care of the Atitegeb Worku children's care organisation in Addis Ababa. Her family was later told that she had been adopted to the United States through Americans for African Adoptions (AFFA). Over time, contact was lost. Her adoptive family may have changed her name to Rahel; the organisation's records also give the name Rahel Wendeson Melkamu. Today she is 20 years old. Her birth father, Wendeson Melkamu, has been searching for her ever since. Her family's hope is simple: that one day she will know she is loved and wanted, and that any contact be entirely her own choice. Missing From Ethiopia stands with this family. No family searches alone. If you are a young woman of about 20 who was adopted from Ethiopia to the United States around 2007, possibly through AFFA, and your name is Rahel or Rediet, this page may be about you. If you are part of the adoption community, or have any information, however small, please share it through the tip form on this page. Every message reaches her father, and any contact will happen only in the way Rediet herself wishes.
